Ludwigia inclinata var. verticillata 'Cuba'

Ludwigia inclinata var. verticillata 'Cuba' is widely regarded as one of the most visually stunning aquatic plants available to hobbyists. Unlike typical Ludwigia with opposite or alternate leaves, this variety produces leaves in dense whorls of 6–10 around the stem, each leaf narrow and pointed, creating an explosion of orange-red colour that resembles a sea anemone or starburst at every node.

It is among the most demanding aquatic plants in cultivation: very high light (80+ PAR), stable and high CO2 levels (30–40 mg/L), consistent iron dosing, and soft, warm acidic water are all essential. Any deficiency in iron causes immediate bleaching of the whorled leaves. Fluctuations in CO2 can cause the plant to revert to a less spectacular alternate-leaved growth form.

Best used as a centrepiece specimen or small focal group in the midground-background junction of high-tech planted tanks. It should not be rushed — allow 2–3 weeks for the plant to adapt before judging its performance.
