Ludwigia x lacustris

Ludwigia x lacustris is a naturally occurring hybrid, believed to be a cross between L. arcuata and a broader-leaved relative, producing leaves intermediate in shape between the two parents. The elongated, slightly elliptic leaves develop warm orange to reddish tones under high light, creating a smooth visual transition between fine-leaved and broad-leaved Ludwigia groups in Dutch aquascapes.

It is moderately demanding — high light and CO2 injection produce the best colouration and most compact growth, but it is somewhat more forgiving than L. glandulosa or the whorled L. inclinata varieties. It adapts well to standard aquarium water parameters within the moderate range.

An excellent choice for aquascapers wanting to add variety to their Ludwigia groupings with a plant that is reasonably manageable but not commonly found in mainstream retail.
