Macrobrachium lanchesteri Ricefield Prawn

Macrobrachium lanchesteri, the Ricefield Prawn, is one of the smallest and most peaceful members of the Macrobrachium genus, native to rice paddies and slow-moving streams of Thailand, Malaysia, and surrounding Southeast Asian countries. Unlike most Macrobrachium species which are aggressive and predatory, M. lanchesteri is small enough and gentle enough to coexist with small, non-aggressive fish in community aquariums. An active scavenger and algae grazer, it helps clean the aquarium floor of uneaten food and detritus.
