Hypsibarbus malcolmi is found throughout the middle and lower Mekong basin of Southeast Asia, inhabiting the main river channels and larger tributaries where it forms schools in open, fast-flowing water. It is one of the largest Hypsibarbus species, capable of reaching 30 cm in captivity, and its tall, laterally compressed body gives it an almost discus-like profile from the front. The flanks are bright gold-silver with individual scale edges creating a faint net-like pattern.

This is a species for truly spacious aquariums only — 400 litres minimum — with powerful filtration and strong water movement. Despite its size it is gentle, peaceful, and groups of four or more display graceful schooling that fills a large display tank with movement and presence. It is entirely safe with smaller fish that it cannot swallow.

Hypsibarbus malcolmi is an omnivore accepting sinking pellets, spirulina and vegetable-based foods, and frozen invertebrates. Its rarity in the trade and impressive appearance make it a highly prized acquisition for public aquarium-style home displays and specialist large-fish collectors.

Orders are processed within 1-2 business days. Standard shipping typically takes 3-5 business days.
