Manganese is an essential micro-nutrient that participates directly in the light reactions of photosynthesis, specifically the oxygen-evolving complex of Photosystem II. When manganese is deficient, young leaves develop interveinal chlorosis — the leaf tissue between the veins turns pale yellow or cream while the veins remain green — a pattern that distinguishes manganese deficiency from iron deficiency, which affects veins and tissue equally.

Manganese deficiency is most common in alkaline, hard-water aquariums where the element precipitates rapidly. This concentrated solution delivers soluble manganese directly to the water column, where it can be taken up through leaves within hours.

At the recommended dose it is safe for all fish and invertebrates. It can be used alongside comprehensive trace element mixes when deficiency signs are particularly severe.
