Mapiritensis Eartheater (Colombia)

Satanoperca mapiritensis is one of the least documented members of its genus in the hobby, originating from the Mapiripán and Manacacías river drainages — tributaries of the Colombian Orinoco llanos. It displays a subtle lateral blotch pattern, iridescent blue-green cheek spots, and a pale, subtly banded body. Like all Satanoperca, it is a delayed mouthbrooder and sand sifter. Given its Colombian Orinoco origin, it inhabits warm, soft, moderately acidic waters with sandy substrates. In captivity it requires similar conditions to S. jurupari but with slightly warmer, softer, more acidic water to remain healthy long-term. A gentle, unobtrusive species that benefits from stable water chemistry and a group of conspecifics or compatible Geophagus. Rarely exported; a true specialist's species.
