Marbled Whiptail Pleco L029

The Marbled Whiptail Pleco (L029) is a slender, elongated loricariid from the Orinoco drainage of Venezuela. Unlike the broader, stubbier body form of most plecos, it has a distinctly whiptail-like silhouette with a long, tapering tail and a flat profile that allows it to press tightly against riverbed substrates. Its marbled pattern of cream and dark brown is both intricate and subtle.

L029 is a herbivore and algae grazer that does best on sandy or fine-gravel substrates where it can forage naturally. Offer algae wafers, spirulina tablets, and blanched green vegetables as the core diet, supplemented by biofilm grazing on wood and stones. It prefers moderate water flow rather than the very strong current demanded by more typical l-number plecos.

This species is entirely peaceful and makes an excellent addition to community aquariums with South American biotope themes. It coexists well with tetras, corydoras, small cichlids, and other loricariids. Keep the substrate clean and soft to avoid abrasion to its delicate ventral surface.
