Margitae Tetra

Hyphessobrycon margitae is a handsome Colombian tetra endemic to the Putumayo and Caquetá River basins. Its pink-red body is set off by a dark lateral stripe and flame-colored fin borders that become more vivid in well-conditioned males. This species occupies a middle ground between the subtle roseus group and the more vivid callistus group of Hyphessobrycon tetras. It appreciates clean, soft, slightly acidic water and dense vegetation to feel secure and display its best coloration. A mid-size species suitable for intermediate hobbyists with South American community setups. Seldom seen in the trade, it is a worthwhile find.
