Melanostichos Tetra

Hyphessobrycon melanostichos is a relatively recent addition to the aquarium hobby, originating from the upper Juruena River in Mato Grosso, Brazil. Its most striking feature is the bold black blotch positioned just behind the operculum on an otherwise translucent silver-gray body. The contrast between the mark and the reflective body creates a distinctive appearance quite different from most Hyphessobrycon species. It is a peaceful schooling fish that prefers soft, warm, slightly acidic water. Best kept in groups of eight or more to reduce stress and encourage natural schooling behavior. A worthwhile addition for hobbyists seeking less-common Brazilian tetra species.
