Metriaclima fainzilberi 'Lundazi'

Metriaclima fainzilberi 'Lundazi' is a geographically distinct population of M. fainzilberi from the Lundazi area of Lake Malawi. Males exhibit the typical blue background colouration overlaid with bold dark vertical barring, a pattern characteristic of the fainzilberi group. Females are tan to brownish-grey with faint barring.

This species occupies rocky littoral zones where it grazes algae from rock surfaces. Males are intensely territorial and will chase and harass rivals and subordinates relentlessly. Best kept in a 1M:3–4F ratio in a large, heavily decorated tank. As a maternal mouthbrooder, the female incubates eggs and fry for approximately 21–28 days. This locale form is prized by collectors for its specific origin and well-defined colouration compared to tank-bred variants. Water must be hard and alkaline to match Lake Malawi conditions.
