Microsorum pteropus 'Aquatica'

Microsorum pteropus 'Aquatica' is a cultivar selected specifically for aquarium use and distinguished by its notably lighter, more lime-green leaf colour compared to the deep-green standard Java Fern. The leaves have a slightly thinner texture with hints of semi-translucency under good lighting, giving the plant a refreshingly bright, open appearance that adds tonal contrast to displays dominated by dark-green epiphytes.

This cultivar is among the most adaptable Java Fern forms for very low-tech setups: it grows at a reliable pace even under very low light and in the absence of any fertilisation beyond what fish bioload provides. Its lighter colour, however, means it benefits more visibly from good iron and trace element supplementation than darker-leaved forms.

Microsorum pteropus 'Aquatica' is ideal for aquarists who want a lighter-toned epiphyte to provide contrast alongside darker Java Fern varieties, Bolbitis, or Anubias. It also works well in tanks where light levels are very low and most other plants would struggle.
