Microsorum pteropus 'Long'

Microsorum pteropus 'Long' is a cultivar selected for its exceptionally elongated fronds, which can reach 40–50 cm in well-established specimens. The fronds are broad near the base and taper to a pointed tip, producing a dramatic, sweeping silhouette that is ideal for background placement in larger aquariums. The dark-green, leathery fronds have the same robust texture as the standard Java fern, but the extended length gives the plant a more imposing, tropical feel.

This cultivar is best suited to tanks of 100 litres or more where its full height can be appreciated. Like all Java ferns, it attaches to hardscape via a creeping rhizome and is extremely tolerant of varying conditions. Its large frond surface area does make it somewhat more susceptible to algae under high light without adequate CO2, so moderate lighting is recommended. It is a long-lived, low-maintenance plant that will develop into a beautiful, arching specimen over time.
