Microsorum pteropus 'Windelov'

Microsorum pteropus 'Windelov' is among the most beloved Java fern cultivars, created by Tropica founder Holger Windelov and named in his honour. Its distinctive feature is the finely branched, crest-like tips of each frond, which divide repeatedly to produce a delicate, lace-like terminal that is unlike any other aquatic plant. The fronds are mid-green and grow to 20–25 cm, with the ornate tips making a strong visual statement against simpler-textured background plants.

Like all Java ferns, 'Windelov' is a hardy, adaptable epiphyte that thrives attached to driftwood or rocks across a wide range of water parameters. It tolerates low light, a broad pH range, and modest water quality, making it suitable for beginners and experienced aquascapers alike. It grows slowly but steadily, rewarding patience with an increasingly full, decorative clump. Propagation occurs naturally when small plantlets form on the underside of mature fronds.
