Microsorum sp. 'Crocodile Lace'

Microsorum sp. 'Crocodile Lace' is a rare variant that combines two striking morphological features in a single plant: the perforated, lace-like leaf fenestration seen in some tropical ferns, and the raised, scale-patterned surface texture associated with the Crocodile fern lineage. The result is a plant of extraordinary visual complexity that is genuinely unlike anything else in the aquarium hobby.

This plant requires somewhat more attention than standard Java Fern but remains manageable for intermediate aquarists. It benefits from soft, slightly acidic water, moderate lighting, and supplemental CO2. The rhizome must be attached to hardscape and must not be buried. Growth is slow, but each leaf that develops is a detailed work of natural art.

Crocodile Lace is best displayed as a solitary specimen against a dark background where both the fenestration and the surface texture can be fully appreciated. Pairing it with fine-leaved mosses or delicate stem plants at a distance creates a compelling contrast without competing with its intricate form.
