Mixed grain natural river substrate is collected and minimally processed from natural riverbed deposits to preserve the authentic heterogeneous grain composition found in real river habitats — a blend of fine sand fractions, medium gravel, and occasional small rounded pebbles that creates a genuinely complex substrate microenvironment.

This texture variation is biologically significant: fine sand areas support small burrowing organisms and corydoras foraging, gravel zones provide shelter for loaches and small cichlids, and pebble areas accumulate biofilm for grazing species. The natural mixed colouration of creams, greys, tans, and brown stones creates an organic, authentic aquascape base that requires no additional decor to look convincingly natural.
