Mottled River Stingray

Potamotrygon tatianae is found in the Madeira River drainage of Brazil and Bolivia, a large and highly diverse Amazonian tributary. Its disc is greyish-brown overlaid with a pale reticular network creating a subtle but attractive marbled effect. In the trade it appears less frequently than P. motoro or P. falkneri, and captive husbandry information is more limited. Care follows standard potamotrygonid protocols with warm, soft, acidic, clean water over fine sand. Its mid-sized adult dimensions and the general hardiness of Madeira drainage species suggest it falls in the moderately manageable range for the genus. Captive breeding records exist but are sparse. It is a worthwhile addition for collectors seeking taxonomic diversity in their stingray collection.
