Multi-banded Tetra

Hollandichthys multifasciatus is native to the coastal Atlantic drainages of southeastern Brazil, inhabiting clear, moderately fast-flowing rivers and streams with sandy substrate. Its most striking feature is a series of five to six bold dark vertical bars along the silver body, creating a pattern reminiscent of a small barb or tigerfish.

This species grows to a respectable size for a tetra and requires adequate swimming space in groups of eight or more. It is active and vigorous, which makes it a compelling display fish in a larger aquarium. It coexists well with other robust, active community species but may intimidate very small or delicate fish through boisterous competition at feeding time.

Any quality aquarium food will be accepted readily. Regular water changes in a clean, well-filtered tank deliver the best health and colouration for this underappreciated Brazilian tetra.
