The Mustard Spot Pleco (L069) is a handsome, mid-sized loricariid from the rocky rapids of the Rio Tocantins in central Brazil. Its most defining feature is the large, clearly defined mustard-yellow spots distributed across a dark brown body, giving it a bold and attractive appearance. The species is closely related to Hemiancistrus and thrives in warm, fast-flowing water.

In the aquarium L069 requires good water flow, regular water changes, and warm temperatures. It is an omnivore that accepts algae wafers, blanched vegetables, sinking pellets, driftwood, and occasional frozen protein foods. Driftwood is especially important as a dietary supplement and refuge. Vivid spot colouration is maintained by excellent water quality and a varied diet.

The Mustard Spot Pleco is moderately peaceful and coexists well with most South American community fish. It can be mildly territorial around caves, so provide one sturdy cave per individual. It pairs well with tetras, larger corydoras, eartheater cichlids, and other Tocantins biotope species in a natural-looking aquarium.
