Myriophyllum mattogrossense

Myriophyllum mattogrossense is a South American milfoil native to the Mato Grosso region of Brazil, widely cultivated in the aquarium hobby for its elegant, feathery appearance. The finely pinnate leaves are arranged in whorls of 4–6 around the stem, producing a soft, delicate texture in vivid bright green that contrasts beautifully with bold-leaved red or orange stem plants.

It grows vigorously under good conditions and is one of the less demanding Myriophyllum species, tolerating a fairly broad range of water parameters. CO2 injection improves growth rate and leaf density but the plant can survive in medium-light setups without it, though growth will be slower and less lush.

Best used in large background groups where its feathery texture creates a soft, cloud-like backdrop. Regular trimming every 10–14 days prevents light starvation of the lower stems.
