Najas guadalupensis

Najas guadalupensis is native to the Americas, distributed from the United States south through Central America to South America. It is remarkable for its extremely fine, narrow leaves and freely branching habit, forming delicate, cloud-like masses that provide outstanding cover for fry, eggs, and invertebrates. It grows at an impressive pace under even very low light, making it one of the most effective low-tech oxygenating plants available. Its soft texture makes it gentle enough to use in breeding tanks for bubble-nesters and egg-scattering fish alike. It is an annual or short-lived perennial that self-seeds readily, ensuring continuous renewal without the aquarist needing to replant.
