Nalseni Piranha

Serrasalmus nalseni inhabits the middle and upper Orinoco basin of Venezuela and is characterised by a particularly deep body profile and attractive dark-speckled silver colouration with a bright red iris. It is exported only infrequently, making it a significant find for piranha specialists when it does appear.

Care mirrors other Orinoco Serrasalmus: soft, slightly acidic water, solo housing, and a meaty diet. The Orinoco origin means similar conditions to S. irritans and S. altuvei are appropriate. Its scarcity means specimens should be acquired only from reputable, legally compliant sources.
