Nanochromis cf. minor

Nanochromis cf. minor represents an undescribed or cryptic species collected from an isolated Congo tributary, closely resembling N. minor but distinguishable by specialists through subtle differences in dorsal fin spotting pattern, male nuptial colouration, and body depth ratios. Such undescribed forms are regularly encountered in the biodiverse Congo basin and are of considerable scientific interest.

Care requirements are consistent with N. minor: soft, acidic water, cavity-spawning behaviour, and tight pair bonding. The relatively unknown wild genetics of this form make responsible captive husbandry — maintaining pairs without hybridisation — especially important for the hobby.

A 60 L species tank with rock crevice hides, sand substrate, and soft, acidic water (pH 5.5–6.8) represents ideal conditions. Regular small live or frozen foods keep the fish in peak condition and encourage breeding.
