Natural River Sand is sourced directly from river deposits and retains the mixed grain sizes and warm earthy colouration — tan, brown, and beige — that characterise real freshwater river substrates worldwide. This natural colour and grain variation creates an authentically wild appearance that is difficult to replicate with processed or uniform-coloured commercial substrates.

In biotope aquarium setups recreating South American blackwater rivers, Southeast Asian streams, or African rift lake shores, Natural River Sand provides the most genuine substrate representation available. The mixed grain sizes create natural textural variation across the substrate surface, mimicking the way river currents deposit sand in gradients from fine to coarse.

Natural River Sand is inert, pH neutral, and chemically safe for all freshwater species. Its smooth, water-worn grain surfaces are gentle on bottom-dwelling fish and invertebrates.
