Necklace Myleus

Myleus torquatus takes its species name from the dark collar-like marking behind the nape that gives it the 'necklace' appearance. It is a large-bodied, disc-shaped schooling serrasalmid from the central Amazon, developing rich colouration in mature males including reddish fin tones during spawning condition.

Like other large Myleus, it demands significant space and excellent filtration. The herbivorous diet is easily met with a variety of plant-based foods. It is peaceful toward all non-aggressive tankmates and makes an impressive centrepiece in a large South American community.
