Neolebias Trewavasae

Neolebias trewavasae is a beautifully coloured micro-characin from the Congo basin, displaying a shimmering green to turquoise iridescence across its small, compressed body combined with a deep crimson or orange-red tail fin. This combination makes it one of the more visually rewarding African nano fish available to dedicated hobbyists, though it remains uncommon in the trade.

Care requirements follow those of other Neolebias species: soft, slightly acidic water, a densely planted nano aquarium with leaf litter or peat filtration, and gentle flow. The species is shy and does best in groups of ten or more in a species-appropriate setup where it is not outcompeted for food by larger or more aggressive fish.

Neolebias trewavasae accepts micro-pellets, fine flake, baby brine shrimp, and micro-worm readily when in good condition. Ensuring stable, clean water with appropriate chemistry is the key to maintaining its vibrant colours over time.
