Crenicichla niederleinii is a large, powerfully built pike cichlid native to the Río de la Plata drainage of Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay, one of the most important pike cichlid species for the Rio Plata-system hobbyist. Named after Argentine naturalist Eduardo Niederlein, this species is a proven aquarium fish with a track record in European collections going back several decades.

The species is characterised by a broad, well-defined dark lateral band, a bold caudal spot, and scattered dark spots across the upper body against a pale silver-white background. In breeding condition, males develop intensified fin pigmentation. Its deep body and robust build are typical of the large fish it must compete with in the open Plata basin rivers.

Tolerant of neutral to slightly alkaline water and moderate hardness, C. niederleinii is practical to maintain in most European water supplies without special treatment. A 350 L minimum tank is needed for a pair, given its 28 cm maximum size. This is one of the more accessible large Crenicichla for keepers in hard-water areas.

Orders are processed within 1-2 business days. Standard shipping typically takes 3-5 business days.

Free shipping on orders over the store's free shipping threshold. Pickup may also be available depending on the store's settings.
