Nile Puffer (Niger Form)

The Niger River form of Tetraodon lineatus is collected from the Niger and its tributaries across Mali, Niger, and Nigeria, and displays richer orange-yellow flanks with distinctly bolder, more contrasting dark horizontal stripes compared to Nile-drainage specimens. It is typically reported at a slightly smaller average adult size than true Nile fahaka. The care requirements are broadly identical to all T. lineatus: an enormous aquarium, superb water quality, regular hard-shelled prey, and absolutely no tankmates. The Niger form is occasionally exported through West African collection chains and may be encountered in specialist puffer circles. Its robust temperament and striking markings make it a prized specimen despite the demanding size and aggression requirements.
