Oblique Kuhli Loach

Pangio oblonga, sometimes called the Java Loach or Black Kuhli variant, is a slender, uniformly dark brownish-black species native to rivers and swamps across Southeast Asia including Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra, and Java. Its plain colouration belies an entertaining and peaceful personality, and it integrates seamlessly into any small-to-medium community aquarium.

This species is among the hardiest of the Pangio genus, tolerating a broader range of water parameters than many of its relatives. It is nonetheless best kept in soft, slightly acidic conditions to avoid long-term stress. Kept in groups of six or more, individuals become emboldened and will forage openly across the substrate during daylight hours.

Diet consists of sinking micro foods, and Pangio oblonga is an enthusiastic scavenger that will clear up food missed by other fish. Fine substrate, low lighting, and a tightly secured lid complete the setup requirements for this easy-to-keep Pangio species.
