One-spot Synodontis

Synodontis notatus is a well-proportioned, mid-sized mochokid whose most immediately recognisable feature is a single large, often ringed, dark spot on the mid-flank — though the number of spots can vary from one to several between individuals and localities. Native to the Congo River system, it is one of the more commonly exported Synodontis.

In the aquarium it is adaptable and straightforward to maintain, tolerating a broad range of soft to moderately hard, neutral water. It is a confident species once settled, often visible during the day when provided with sufficient structure in the aquarium.

Given its bold personality and medium adult size it is a good choice for a variety of Central and West African community setups.
