The Orange Rili Shrimp is a selectively bred Neocaridina davidi colour morph that applies the characteristic rili pattern — solid colour at the head and tail, transparent in the abdomen — in warm, vivid orange. The orange sections range from soft tangerine to deep pumpkin orange depending on the specific line and individual genetics, and the contrast against the clear mid-body creates a lively, mosaic-like appearance that is distinctive and attractive in the aquarium.
Like all rili-patterned Neocaridina, the Orange Rili emerged from selective breeding programs that progressively reduced mid-body pigmentation while maintaining or intensifying colour in the head and tail regions. The pattern can vary in expression across a colony, with some individuals showing more or less extensive transparent areas. Maintaining a clean, consistent orange rili pattern across generations benefits from periodic culling of off-pattern individuals.
Orange Rili Shrimp are as hardy and beginner-friendly as any other Neocaridina davidi morph. They accept a wide range of water parameters, thrive on varied diets of algae and detritus, and breed readily in established aquariums. Their warm colouration is particularly striking against dark substrates and green moss backgrounds, and a colony of a dozen or more individuals creates constant, lively activity throughout the tank. An excellent and visually interesting alternative to the more common Cherry Red Shrimp for newcomers to the shrimp hobby.
