Orange-seam Pleco L056

The Orange-seam Pleco (L056) is a visually impressive loricariid from the Rio Magdalena system of Colombia. Its bold reticulated body pattern is framed by vivid orange-red fin margins that glow under aquarium lighting. This species is adapted to clear, well-oxygenated rivers and is more demanding than many other L-numbers in its water quality requirements.

In the aquarium L056 requires excellent filtration, strong water flow, and warm conditions. It is an omnivore that accepts algae wafers, blanched vegetables, driftwood, sinking pellets, and supplemental protein foods. Driftwood is an especially important element, providing both nutrition and essential cave territories. Regular large water changes are non-negotiable.

The Orange-seam Pleco can be moderately territorial, particularly toward conspecifics. Best housed as a single specimen or as a well-matched pair in a very large aquarium. Its more unusual origin (Colombia's Magdalena drainage rather than the Amazon or Orinoco) gives it an interesting addition to a diversified pleco collection.
