Orinocensis Silver Dollar

Metynnis orinocensis is restricted to the Orinoco drainage and its associated blackwater tributaries in Venezuela and Colombia. While its outward appearance closely resembles M. argenteus, it consistently benefits from softer and more acidic water than its Amazonian counterpart, reflecting its origin in the distinctly different Orinoco hydrochemistry.

Behaviourally and in terms of care, it follows the standard Metynnis template. For those constructing an Orinoco biotope aquarium alongside species such as Pygocentrus cariba, Altuvei piranha, or Orinoco cichlids, it provides an authentic schooling element.
