Orinoco Angel Pleco L201

Hypancistrus inspector, referred to in the hobby as the Orinoco Angel Pleco or Network Pleco (L201), is an elegant and intricately patterned loricariid from the Rio Negro basin. Its entire body surface is covered in a complex labyrinthine pattern of fine white-to-cream lines winding across a dark black background, creating a design that resembles an intricate Celtic knotwork or aerial map — hence the alternative name Network Pleco.

It originates from the warm, oxygen-rich blackwater rivers of the Rio Negro system and requires soft, acidic conditions to truly thrive. pH 5.5–7.0 with soft, tannin-stained water is ideal. Warm temperatures of 26–30°C are essential. Driftwood, leaf litter, and caves complete the ideal setup.

The Orinoco Angel Pleco is omnivorous, accepting bloodworms, brine shrimp, algae wafers, and Repashy readily. It is one of the more peaceful members of the Hypancistrus genus and coexists well with most community fish. Males are territorial toward each other near caves but otherwise non-aggressive. Breeding is achievable with patience in well-maintained setups.
