The Turquoise Danio is a slim, attractively colored small cyprinid native to the streams of peninsular Thailand and Malaysia. Its coloration is subtler than many of its relatives: the body displays a soft, diffuse turquoise to blue-green iridescence along the upper flanks with a faint golden to yellowish mid-lateral stripe, and fins may show a hint of color in mature males. It reaches approximately 5 cm and occupies the mid to upper water column, displaying the characteristic endless activity of all danios. Though not the most flamboyant of species, the Turquoise Danio has a quiet elegance that appeals to planted tank enthusiasts who prefer soft, natural coloration over high-contrast patterns. It is completely peaceful and will not bother any tankmates. A school of six or more individuals shows the most natural behavior, and the combined shimmer of multiple fish catches light beautifully. The Turquoise Danio prefers slightly warmer water than some of its cool-tolerant relatives, thriving at 20–26°C. It is an undemanding omnivore that adapts readily to all standard aquarium foods. Despite its desirability, it is not always widely available in fish shops and may require sourcing from specialist retailers.
