Volcanic Mineral Substrate (5L)

Volcanic mineral substrate is manufactured from kiln-processed pumice and basaltic mineral aggregates, combining extraordinary surface porosity with a useful trace mineral profile including silica, potassium, magnesium, and iron. The highly porous structure of each granule provides an enormous internal surface area for colonisation by nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria, contributing significantly to the biological filtration capacity of the aquarium.

The slow, continuous release of silica from the substrate supports diatom control in new tanks and benefits silica-using organisms including certain algae-grazing snails and filter feeders. The irregular, rough-textured granule surface also provides excellent anchorage for plant roots, particularly the thick tap roots of larger stem plants and swords. At 5 litres, this bag is sufficient for a standard 60–80 litre aquarium at 4–5 cm depth.
