Werner's Tetra

Hyphessobrycon werneri is an attractively striped tetra from the Amazon tributaries of Peru and Colombia. It carries a broad golden-green lateral band above a contrasting black stripe, creating a two-toned horizontal pattern that is distinctive within the genus. A calm, peaceful schooling species, it does well in biotope aquariums featuring peat-stained water, dried leaves, and fine-leaved plants for cover and spawning. Its moderate care requirements and non-confrontational temperament make it a suitable choice for intermediate hobbyists seeking less-common Amazonian tetras. It accepts most prepared and live foods and breeds via egg-scattering.
