Wool Spawning Mop

The Wool Spawning Mop is one of the simplest and most effective tools in the killifish and egg-layer breeder's arsenal. Constructed from looped acrylic wool attached to a cork float or weighted base, it mimics the fine-leaved vegetation that many species naturally use for egg deposition.

Killifish, tetras, danios, and even goldfish will readily scatter adhesive eggs among the dense strands. The mop can be used floating at the surface, or weighted to sit on the substrate depending on the preferred spawning zone of the species. After spawning, the entire mop can be moved to a separate hatching container, allowing safe incubation away from egg-eating adults. Mops are reusable after thorough rinsing and are free of harmful chemicals unlike some artificial plants.
