Neolamprologus tretocephalus
Also known as: 5-Bar Princess Cichlid, Five-Bar Lamprologus
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Neolamprologus tretocephalus is a large lamprologine from the rocky zones of Lake Tanganyika, featuring five bold dark bars on a pale body and a broad, powerful head. An opportunistic predator that hunts small fish and invertebrates, it is best kept with robust similarly-sized Tanganyika species. Breeding pairs are highly territorial and prolific cave spawners.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water. Tank: 200L+; substantial rockwork to establish breeding cave and boundary lines. Feeding: Quality cichlid pellet, frozen krill or lance fish; will eat small fish — choose tankmates carefully. Behaviour: Aggressive pair; vigorously defends large territory; not suitable for small or timid tankmates. Compatibility: Large Julidochromis, robust Neolamprologus cylindricus, upper-level Cyprichromis.
