Origin: South America
Apistogramma sp. Abacaxis originates from the remote Abacaxis River, a tributary of the lower Amazon. Males display striking lateral markings and rich finnage coloration that intensify during courtship. This species demands very soft, acidic water and is best reserved for experienced dwarf cichlid keepers.
Water: 25-30°C, pH 5.0-6.5, very soft (GH 1-4); use RO or blackwater extract. Tank: 60L minimum, dark sand substrate, leaf litter, dense planting and caves. Feeding: omnivore — live/frozen Artemia, Daphnia, Cyclops; supplement with micro pellets. Behaviour: territorial during breeding; harem setup (1M:2-3F) recommended. Compatibility: species tank or with small, peaceful tetras from blackwater habitats.
