Centropyge abei
Origin: Japan, Philippines, Pacific Islands (deep reef)
Centropyge abei is a rarely encountered dwarf angelfish from the deeper reef slopes of Japan, the Philippines, and the Pacific Islands. It features a dark brownish-black body adorned with fine blue speckles that give it a uniquely understated and mysterious elegance compared to the more vivid Centropyge species commonly available. Specimens are seldom collected due to their deep-water habitat preferences, making each individual a genuine collector's prize for dedicated marine enthusiasts.
House in a well-established reef or FOWLR aquarium (minimum 180 L) with abundant live rock providing microalgae grazing surfaces and shelter. Maintain stable reef parameters (pH 8.1–8.4, SG 1.020–1.025, temperature 22–26°C). Feed varied omnivore diet: high-quality marine flake, frozen Mysis shrimp, frozen Artemia, and spirulina-enriched foods supplemented with algae sheets. Like all dwarf angels, may nip at LPS corals and tridacna clams in reef setups — observe carefully.
