Acropora millepora
Origin: Indo-Pacific (shallow reef flats)
Acropora millepora is one of the most popular and widely kept SPS corals in the hobby, forming compact, tightly branched colonies in a vivid apple-green colouration that fluoresces brilliantly under actinic and blue reef lighting. Native to shallow Indo-Pacific reef flats, it grows rapidly under high-flow, high-light conditions and is regarded as a good 'entry-level' Acropora for hobbyists making the transition into SPS reef keeping. Colonies can reach 20–30 cm across in a mature system.
Requires high-output lighting (PAR 200–400+) and strong, chaotic water flow. Position in the upper third of the tank. Maintain NSW parameters: pH 8.1–8.3, Alk 8–10 dKH, Ca 400–450 ppm, Mg 1250–1350 ppm, Sal 1.025, temp 24–27°C. Dose two-part or use a calcium reactor. Target-feed with coral amino acids twice weekly. Sensitive to temperature swings, elevated nutrients, and low Alk — test parameters twice weekly when first established. Fragging is easy: cut branches with bone cutters and glue to plugs.
