Acropora tenuis
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Acropora tenuis in its blue form is one of the most stunning SPS corals available, displaying thin, elegant branching with vivid blue polyps and contrasting lighter branch tips. It is slightly more demanding than A. millepora but rewards careful husbandry with extraordinary colouration. A. tenuis forms table-like or irregular branching colonies and grows moderately quickly under appropriate conditions.
High PAR (250–450) and strong random flow essential. Pristine chemistry: Alk 8–9 dKH (stability critical — swings cause bleaching), Ca 420–450 ppm, Mg 1280–1350 ppm. Maintain NO3 2–5 ppm, PO4 0.02–0.05 ppm — too low nutrients wash out colour. Temp 24–26°C, SG 1.025–1.026. Dose amino acids weekly. Monitor for Acropora-eating flatworms (AEFW) and red bugs. Dip all new frags in CoralRx or Revive before introduction.
