Cryptodendrum adhaesivum
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Cryptodendrum adhaesivum is a small but highly aggressive anemone with a distinctive dual tentacle morphology — branched outer tentacles for capturing prey and shorter, extraordinarily sticky inner tentacles near the oral disc that readily trap and sting any small invertebrates or fish that wander too close. Its highly adhesive tentacles give it one of the most powerful contact stings of any commonly available anemone. Tankmate selection requires very careful consideration, and it is best reserved for experienced reef keepers with species-appropriate housing.
House in a mature, well-established reef aquarium (minimum 150 L) with stable reef water parameters. Provide strong, high-intensity lighting (metal halide or powerful LED) and moderate to strong water flow. Feed small meaty foods (Mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood) 2–3 times per week. Keep away from corals and other invertebrates — its adhesive tentacles will capture and sting anything within reach. Not suitable for mixed reef tanks with small fish or invertebrates.
