Corydoras adolfoi
Origin: Brazil (upper Rio Negro)
Corydoras adolfoi, known as Adolfo's Cory, is one of the most visually striking corydoras species available in the European hobby. Native to the upper Rio Negro in Brazil — one of the most acidic and mineral-poor river systems in the world — this species features a gleaming pale body accented by a bold black stripe across the eyes and a brilliant orange saddle on the dorsal region just behind the head. The contrast between the pale body, black mask, and orange patch makes Adolfo's Cory immediately distinctive in a planted community aquarium. Like all corydoras it is a peaceful bottom-dwelling schooling fish that feels most secure in groups of at least six individuals, displaying confident foraging behaviour and constant, endearing activity along sandy substrates. Pairs well with small, gentle tankmates such as dwarf tetras, rasboras, and apistogramma cichlids.
Keep in groups of 6 or more on a fine sand substrate to protect delicate sensory barbels. Provide gentle filtration — Rio Negro fish are adapted to very low mineral content, soft, acidic water. Feed sinking foods including corydoras tablets, micro worms, and bloodworms in the evening. Perform regular small water changes. Avoid coarse gravel substrates that can damage barbels.
