Cirrhilabrus adornatus
Origin: Micronesia, Palau
Cirrhilabrus adornatus is a stunning Micronesian fairy wrasse with males showcasing a vivid red body overlaid with iridescent blue scale markings and elongated dorsal filaments that are displayed during elaborate nuptial courtship rituals at dusk. Named for its ornate appearance, it is a collector favourite among reef aquarists and adapts well to established reef and FOWLR aquariums with calm, non-aggressive tankmates. The species is rarely available in the European trade, adding to its desirability.
House in a well-established reef or FOWLR aquarium (minimum 200 L) with a tight-fitting cover — fairy wrasses are active jumpers. Maintain stable reef parameters (pH 8.1–8.4, SG 1.021–1.025, temperature 24–27°C). Feed varied carnivore-biased diet: quality marine flake, frozen Mysis shrimp, frozen Artemia, and vitamin-enriched foods. Can be kept as a single male or in a harem with one male and 2–3 females. Generally reef-safe with corals and most invertebrates.
