Anomalochromis thomasi
Origin: Guinea, Sierra Leone
Anomalochromis thomasi, the African Butterfly Cichlid, is a stunning small cichlid from blackwater streams in Guinea and Sierra Leone. Males display an extraordinary combination of electric blue-green iridescence with red-orange highlights and striking ocellated fin spots — one of the most colourful dwarf cichlids in the hobby. A substrate-spawning cichlid with impressive parental care. Smaller and more peaceful than many cichlids, suitable for planted community tanks. Sold as a sexed pair.
Pair in 60+ L planted tank. Soft, slightly acidic water (pH 6.0–7.0). Temperature 24–28 °C. Feed micro-pellets, frozen bloodworm, and daphnia. Flat stones for spawning. Tolerant of most community fish outside breeding season; becomes protective of eggs/fry.
