Synodontis afrofischeri
Also known as: Afro-Fischer's Catfish, Fischer's Synodontis
Origin: Africa (East Africa — Lakes Victoria, Kyoga)
Synodontis afrofischeri is native to Lakes Victoria and Kyoga in East Africa. Its stocky, humped body profile and brown-and-black spotted patterning give it a rugged, characterful appearance. It is adapted to the moderately alkaline water conditions of the Victorian Rift Lakes and coexists naturally with the haplochromine cichlids found in those habitats, making it an authentic choice for East African biotope aquariums.
Water: 22–26°C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderately hard (GH 8–18); East African Rift chemistry preferred. Tank: 200 L minimum; rocks and caves for shelter; open substrate for foraging. Feeding: Sinking pellets, algae wafers, frozen bloodworm, shrimp, and vegetation. Behaviour: Nocturnal; territorial with conspecifics; tolerant of cichlid aggression. Compatibility: Excellent companion for Victorian haplochromines and other East African cichlids.
