Corydoras agassizii
Origin: Peru, Brazil (Amazon basin)
Corydoras agassizii is a beautifully patterned armoured catfish from the upper Amazon basin, found in the clear and white-water streams of Peru and the Brazilian Amazon. The pale body is covered in a distinctive reticulated pattern of dark spots and blotches, with a prominent dark stripe running along the dorsal surface from snout to tail base — making it immediately identifiable among the many corydoras species. Like all Corydoras it is a peaceful, active, and sociable bottom forager that uses its sensitive barbels to search the substrate for small invertebrates, worms, and organic detritus. Fine sandy substrate is essential to protect the delicate sensory barbels, which can erode on coarse gravel. Best kept in groups of six or more individuals.
Provide fine-grain sand substrate and keep in groups of 6+. Feed with sinking wafers, catfish tablets, frozen bloodworms, and micro worms. Maintain clean, well-oxygenated water with good circulation. Regular partial water changes are important — corydoras are sensitive to accumulated nitrates. Compatible with a wide range of peaceful community fish.
