Cyprinus rubrofuscus
Origin: Captive bred (Japan)
Ai Goromo is a distinguished member of the Goromo koi classification, combining the classic white-and-red Kohaku pattern with the distinctive characteristic that each red scale is individually edged in deep indigo or blue, creating the appearance of a delicate robe or veil draped over the fish. The interplay between the red hi pattern and the blue-edged scales creates a sophisticated visual effect that becomes more pronounced and beautiful as the fish matures and the blue reticulation deepens with age. Ai Goromo are highly valued among serious koi collectors and competitive koi keepers across Belgium and the Netherlands, where pond-keeping culture is well established. These fish require large ponds with excellent water quality to develop their full potential.
House in a pond of at least 2,000 litres with filtration capable of handling koi biological load. Feed premium koi food three times daily in warm months, reducing frequency as water cools below 15°C and stopping below 10°C. Regular water testing and maintenance of stable alkaline, well-buffered water are essential. Protect from predators with netting. Annual health checks for parasites and bacterial infections are recommended.
