Origin: Indonesia (West Papua, Ajamaru Lakes)
Melanotaenia ajamaruensis shares its native Ajamaru Lakes habitat with Melanotaenia boesemani and is similarly spectacular in colouration. Males display vivid blue-grey and orange colouration, making it a close rival to its famous relative. Water: 25–30°C, pH 7.0–8.0, hard water (GH 10–20, KH 5–12). Tank: 150 L+, open swimming space and robust plants. Feeding: Omnivore; quality flakes, pellets, and frozen/live foods. Behaviour: Active, peaceful schooling fish; males display vivid colour to rivals. Compatibility: Excellent community fish with other rainbowfish and similarly sized species.
